Today I am two

Dieter doesn't really grasp the concept of birthdays. But he says whatever they are, they're neat because he gets toys and treats.

Today is Dieter's 2nd birthday, and we celebrated it with song. Dieter says the singing was just dreadful, but he kept his wits about him and just thought about the treat he'd get after the singing stopped. We sang Happy Birthday and For He's a Jolly Good Fellow.

As we yodeled, he kept his eyes on the prize--the Two Boston's doggie cupcake with yogurt frosting and sprinkles.

No fun. Doesn't run from me.
I also got him a squirrel cookie, seeing as though his life now revolves around scaring the wits out of the bushy-tailed-rats who eat the sunflower seeds I put out for the birds. Dieter doesn't get irony (at least I think it's irony--giving a GSD who loves to chase squirrels a squirrel cookie as a treat). Evidently he was full after the cupcake, so he "hid" the cookie in a blanket on the couch. Maybe he has it earmarked for a late-night-snack.

Two Bostons is smart. They send an email for a pet's birthday and offer a BOGO dog toy offer. And a sampling of their Puppy Kisses dog candies. I also got him a bull pizzle and a knuckle bone. I won't say how much I spent, but, as I told the clerk: "this is more than I spend on some people's birthdays. But Dieter's a lot nicer than some people, too."

I'm 2 years old today!
And while I'm hoping with hitting the Big 2 he'll continue to be a little less rambunctious, I'm afraid the sales clerk is right. As she said "he's gonna be a puppy until he's 3."
