Give me a dog with hair, long beautiful hair!

Pretty fur; lots of it!
I've commented before on the amount of shedding a German Shepherd will do. I was warned--they shed. A lot. It's a good idea to contain the dog some in the house, otherwise it'll be a shed-fest everywhere. They'll still shed, but it will be a contained shed-fest.

The other day I had an "accidental" Spring cleaning event. I pulled off the bottom part of the refrigerator and there was so much fur, I thought another dog had taken up residence. Should I get some dog treats to lure it out? Oh, never mind. It's Dieter fur.

Since I was down on the floor I gave under the frig and stove a good cleaning out--I have one of those long-handled brushes designed to clean refrigerator coils. It's worth it's weight in dog fur. It also works under the stove, which is less of a hair receptacle, but furry nonetheless.

And just so you don't assume I'm just a slovenly slattern, I always vac along both appliances. But  obviously that's not enough.

Dieter fur and other nesting materials.
While all the cleaning was under way, Dieter stood over me and supervised. I don't know if he thought I had fallen and was rolling around on the floor or was concerned about what would happen to all his shedded fur, but supervise he did.

I routinely groom Dieter, too. I purchased a Furminator grooming tool and give him a good going over. I highly recommend the Furminator. The fur I harvest goes in an old suet holder outside, and the birds use the fur for nest building.

It's a win-win for everyone! I get rid of the excess dog fur, Dieter says it feels good to get rid of some of that old fur, and the birds appreciate his largesse as well
