Snow Days
Dieter was born on November 6, 2012, and up until late January/early February he hadn't really experienced much snow. His humans were grateful that the weather cooperated for a while, since traipsing out into the backyard with a dog who'd never been on a leash before is fun enough. Never mind trying to wrangle a recalcitrant puppy in snow and ice and all that other fun Winter stuff.
Our luck finally ran out, though, and the snows came. At first, Dieter wasn't so sure what that cold white stuff was. And where did all grass and dead leaves go that were so much fun to eat? Until the snow blanketed the back yard, taking Dieter into the back yard for his daily constitutionals was like trying to walk a hyperkinetic pogo stick. Boing, boing, boing...what's that? A leaf? Oh boy!! Boing, boing, boing...hey, is it? Could it be? Another leaf? Oh boy!!
After the first snowfall, Dieter very tentatively snuffled at the snow. And sneezed. The first time he really stuck his nose in the snow he looked up at us and seemed pretty confused. Or maybe it was a brain freeze.
Soon though, he decided this white stuff was the most fun since sliced bread, or milk bones, or whatever dogs consider to be the best thing. He'd pretend he was a snow plow, running and shoveling the snow with his nose. Some days he'd just flop around in the snow as if he was trying to make snow angels. His mean human mom would lob snow balls at him and he'd try to catch them. But have you ever tried to find a snowball once it's fallen in all that other white stuff?
