Weekend Par-tay

For me? I can has?
It's the pits when your birthday falls in the middle of the week. There's work and school and all that fun stuff. Dieter's one-year birthday fell on
Am am one? Are you one, too?
Wednesday this year. The old nursery rhyme said that Wednesday's child is full of woe -- I know that one, since I was born on a Wednesday. But, luckily, Dieter was born on a Tuesday last year so he is "full of grace."That sound like him--when he trots across the yard or across the arena in training class, he moves with grace and elegance.

We postponed some of Dieter's birthday festivities to the weekend, and today we went to the Two Boston's November birthday bash. He met two Bernese Mountain Dogs--one a 4-month-old puppy and a 2 year old--a Boston Terrier, and a Havanese that was about as big as one of Dieter's paws. There was a lot of sniffing and drooling--a good time was had by all. Dieter got a treat from one of the staff and all the humans were going on and on about how handsome Dieter is. Before we even got into the store, two women who were getting into their car stopped and pointed: "Oh, that's a beautiful dog. Can we greet him?" Someone else in the store said: "He's from German lines, isn't he?" You'd think all the fussing over him would go to his head, but Dieter remains modest.

From my cousin!
For the birthday celebrants, Two Bostons was offering a BOGO free dog toy. We discussed which toys hold up best with heavy-duty chewers and we picked a ball (the manufacturer will replace it free of charge if the dog chews through it to the core) and a durable plush toy in the shape of an alien creature.

Later, my cousin came over and brought Dieter a tough ball we can play fetch with. We have another that's sort of like a super ball on steroids and we worry that it'll either ricochet and knock one of us down or smack Dieter in the head. This new ball is much safer.
This doggie cupcake is yummy-lish!

The afternoon ended with a doggie cupcake. Dieter might be a picky eater when it comes to kibble, but he had no trouble putting that cupcake away. Yummmm-o.
